The iPhone 16 series had a massive camera leak just weeks before its release and enthusiasts are expecting a shake-up on the list of best phone cameras immediately after it drops.
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus Camera Upgrades:
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will feature dual cameras, just like their predecessors. However, Apple has vertically stacked these cameras to enable spatial video recording, which is compatible with headsets like the Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro.
While the main camera will maintain its 48MP resolution and f/1.6 aperture, the UltraWide camera is expected to have a faster f/2.2 aperture for improved low-light performance. Additionally, people are speculating that these models will introduce a new feature of macro photography.
All four iPhone 16 models are expected to introduce a new Capture Button, which is a capacitive button located in the lower right corner. This button will allow for autofocus, shooting, and zooming with a simple press-and-slide gesture.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max Camera Upgrades:
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will offer significant camera improvements. Both models will feature a 48MP wide sensor with a larger aperture and larger pixels. The regular iPhone 16 Pro will now have the same 5x zoom lens previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Additionally, the UltraWide camera will upgrade to 48MP for improved detail and potential Pro-raw support.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to support 3K video at 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision for video.
While these are just leaks, they paint a promising picture of the iPhone 16 camera system. Apple has consistently pushed the boundaries of smartphone photography, and the iPhone 16 series looks set to continue this trend.
