Netflix’s sci-fi epic “3 Body Problem” has captivated audiences worldwide since its release in late March. Based on the Hugo Award-winning Chinese novel of the same name, the show even garnered interest in China, where Netflix is unavailable.

The novel explores humanity’s vulnerability when faced with an alien civilization and I must say, the story behind the alien planet orbiting triple star system is top-notch.

If you’re wondering, this type of star system is relatively rare compared to binary star systems (two stars) like our sun having a close stellar companion.

These triple star systems can be quite complex due to the gravitational pull of each star influencing the others and that’s why in the movie, the alien had to leave their solar system million light years away to reach Earth.

The attention to details was outstanding, not too dramatic, not boring and that’s why many can’t stop watching and talking about the series.

While the series has reached many audiences around the globe within a short period of time after its release, things aren’t just looking so good for the casts behind the “3 Body Problem” series.

Just a day after the show’s premiere, a key player in its development, Xu Yao, a prominent lawyer, was sentenced to death in Shanghai for the murder of Lin Qi, the 39-year-old billionaire founder of Yoozoo Games.

Lin’s company held the film adaptation rights for the “3 Body Problem.” According to the court, Xu, once considered Lin’s trusted advisor, became jealous after Lin sidelined him following the successful Netflix deal in 2020.

Xu was said to have allegedly orchestrated a meticulously planned poisoning, using disguised pills containing lethal substances.

Yoozoo Games, besides the Netflix series, holds rights to other adaptations of “The Three-Body Problem,” including a Chinese television series, animation, and stage productions.

The parallels between the show’s themes and the real-life tragedy haven’t gone unnoticed by fans.

Someone even commented saying, “The story reflects reality. Lose your humanity, and you lose a lot. Lose your animal nature, and you lose everything.”

The investigation into Lin’s death took years to conclude, despite Xu’s swift detention. Initially, Lin’s passing, attributed to illness, sent shockwaves through China’s tech and gaming industries.

The “3 Body Problem” series, with a hefty budget of $160 million, is one of Netflix’s most ambitious projects ever. Co-created by “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, it features the late Lin Qi as an executive producer, a grim reminder of his involvement.
