Apple has released a preview of its Apple Intelligence, a collection of AI features aiming to improve Siri, automate email and image generation, and sort notifications.

Apple released the new Apple Intelligence in the developer beta of iOS 18.1 and made it available on the iPad and Mac. However, it’s currently available to only registered Apple developers. The Apple developer program costs $99 a year to enroll.

Apple plans to release its highly anticipated AI to the public later this year. However, despite launching on iOS 18.1, it’s unlikely to debut alongside the new iPhone models and iOS 18 this fall.

Apple Intelligence is a core component of Apple’s future. Investors anticipate significant device improvements in the coming years, driven by its seamless integration with the Apple operating system. Exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models and beyond, this technology is poised to be a significant change.

We expect this iPhone cycle to remain strong for longer as AI features set (software and possible hardware) improve in the 2025 iPhone.

Includes and excludes

The preview of Apple Intelligence only showcases a portion of the full capabilities demonstrated at the company’s June developer conference.

However, the Monday preview release includes

  • New Siri look that makes the edge of the phone glow.
  • Siri can now answer troubleshooting questions about Apple products.
  • Siri’s ability to understand commands even when the speaker stumbles over their words.
  • Apple text generation service for writing tools.
  • AI-generated summaries for Mail, messages, and voicemail transcriptions.
  • Improved photo search and movie creation.

Apple plans to include other features that are not currently on the preview and roll them out over the year.

  • ChatGPT integration
  • Image generation
  • Email generation
  • Automated photo clean-up
  • The ability for Siri to use user’s personal information and take actions inside apps.

The Apple Intelligence features will roll out in October after the launch of new iPhone and iPad software updates.
