According to tech expert, Mark Gurman, Apple is gearing up for the launch of its groundbreaking Vision Pro mixed-reality headset in March 2024. Although it was initially planned for release this coming January, however, that won’t be happening as Apple is meticulously fine-tuning distribution strategies and still conducting final tests on the device.
Back in June, Apple introduced the Vision Pro with a price tag of $3,499, announcing its intention to release it in early 2024. Keeping to its schedule, Apple is set to debut the headset first in the United States, with plans to expand its availability to other countries like Canada and the United Kingdom by the end of the year. Given Apple’s tradition of holding spring events in March, it is anticipated that the Vision Pro will be a focal point during this occasion.
At the heart of the Vision Pro is Apple’s first innovative visionOS designed from the ground up for spatial computing.” This three-dimensional interface liberates applications from the constraints of conventional displays. The App Store for the Vision Pro will seamlessly integrate all compatible iPhone and iPad apps, with over 100 Apple Arcade titles ready for play on the VisionOS at launch.
Distinguishing itself from some AR headsets in the market, the Vision Pro separates its battery pack from the device. A cable connects to the rear, providing up to two hours of usage, or users can opt for continuous power by plugging into the wall.
Equipped with the standard M2 chip and a new R1 chip for video streaming, the Vision Pro harnesses micro-OLED technology to cram an impressive 23 million pixels into its dual displays. A unique feature, “EyeSight,” utilizes a front-facing display to showcase the user’s eyes to others in the vicinity.
With its hefty price, the Vision Pro appears to target enterprise clientele rather than the average consumer. Speculation suggests that the inclusion of “Pro” in the device’s name hints at a potential release of a more affordable version for general consumers down the line.
