Nintendo has announced a delay in U.S. pre-orders for its highly anticipated Switch 2 console, citing the need to assess the impact of the Trump administration’s newly imposed tariffs.
The delay follows the Trump administration’s introduction of significant tariffs: 34% on goods from China and 46% on goods from Vietnam, both key manufacturing locations for Nintendo. These tariffs have disrupted the company’s production pipeline, prompting a reassessment of market conditions.
A Nintendo spokesperson stated, “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. have been postponed indefinitely and will not start April 9, 2025, as we’re assessing the potential impact of tariffs and market conditions.”

The Switch 2 boasts several enhancements over its predecessor, including a larger screen, mouse controls, and a built-in chat function. Nintendo has also announced upcoming titles such as “Mario Kart World,” enhanced “Zelda” games, and GameCube classics available for online subscribers.
The online gaming community has responded to the delay, with many expressing disappointment and frustration over the broader economic and political factors affecting the gaming industry. Discussions have ranged from satirical takes to serious political commentary.
Nintendo has not provided a new date for U.S. pre-orders but assures customers that updates will be communicated as the situation develops.
Despite this delay, the global release date remains June 5, with a retail price of $449.99. Pre-orders in other regions, including the UK, are proceeding as planned.
