Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music are teaming up with TikTok to introduce an innovative feature that will allow users to effortlessly save TikTok-discovered tunes directly to their preferred streaming apps. This development is in sync with TikTok’s increasing impact on music charts and artist discovery, as shown by Spotify’s recent app redesign influenced by TikTok’s short-form content.

You will now discover the new “Add Song” button next to track names in the For You Feed, initiating the process of saving songs to your streaming app of choice. Users can personalize their experience by setting their preferred default music service upon the first tap of this button. Although Apple Music was initially omitted from TikTok’s announcement, it’s now confirmed to be an integral part of the feature.

For Spotify enthusiasts in the U.S. and the U.K., saved songs will seamlessly populate the “Liked Songs” playlist. To tailor your preferences, head to the “Music” section on the Settings page. According to Spotify, this functionality will gradually expand to more markets over time.

Amazon Music users in the U.S. and U.K. can curate TikTok songs into a dedicated playlist, with this feature exclusive to Prime members and Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers. Apple Music, exclusively available to paying subscribers, is also part of this collaborative initiative.

Bear in mind that both TikTok and your streaming app must be updated for the feature to work seamlessly. Spotify has already rolled out the update for both iOS and Android. TikTok’s integration with streaming services comes at a time when its parent company, ByteDance, is making strides in the streaming music landscape through the global expansion of TikTok Music.

While TikTok solidifies its status as a music discovery powerhouse, its collaboration with competitors shows the importance of industry-wide cooperation. Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, highlights the feature’s role in creating a direct link between TikTok discovery and streaming consumption, enhancing the overall music experience.

TikTok’s influence in the music industry extends beyond this collaboration, evident in recent partnerships with Billboard, music industry talent identification programs, and live music competitions. The “Add to Music App” feature is gradually rolling out in the U.S. and U.K., with plans for expansion into additional markets soon.
