As a means to create more appeal to Samsung users, the tech giant plans to integrate generative AI technology into its voice assistant Bixby.

Launched in 2017 with the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone, Bixby offered several functions including live translations and replying to questions, it was asked. However, since the invention of chatbots, which are more advanced and capable of answering more complex queries, the Samsung voice assistant has become somewhat obsolete.

So Bixby has been a key voice assistant for Samsung not just for the mobile devices but also for TVs and digital appliances that exist in the Samsung ecosystem. So it has been the core voice assistant so far.with the emergence of generative AI and LLM (Large Language Model) technology, I believe that we have to redefine the role of the Bixby, so that Bixby could be equipped with generative Ai and become more smarter in the future

Won-joon Choi, Executive vice president at Samsung

Samsung has gone further to launch new features powered by Galaxy AI, revealed along with its latest flagship, the Galaxy S24 smartphones. One major feature is the capability of circling something on the screen and automatically searching for it on Google without the need to switch between apps.

However, that did not get the desired reaction from users, as statistics show that few Samsung users use the voice assistant or even know about it. The tech giant is now moving to integrate its AI with its voice assistant Bixby.

Choi solidified the idea that Samsung AI and Bixby will get the generative AI upgrade, but the timeframe was not specified. We can only expect Samsung to reveal it before or during the next flagship launch.
