OpenAI is set to introduce the GPT Store, a platform for developers to showcase and distribute custom applications built on its text-generating AI models, including the upcoming GPT-4.

The launch, scheduled for the coming week, requires developers to adhere to OpenAI’s updated usage policies and brand guidelines for GPT to ensure compliance for listing in the store.

Developers constructing GPTs must verify their user profiles and ensure that their models are published as “public” to be eligible for inclusion in the GPT Store.

While the store was initially announced at OpenAI’s first annual developer conference, DevDay, last year, its release was delayed likely due to a leadership shakeup when Sam Altman now the CEO was initially fired and almost immediately reinstated with new board members.

As the OpenAI GPT Store gears up for launch, a critical aspect that remains unanswered is the revenue-sharing model: what percentage will OpenAI claim from the sales or subscriptions of custom GPTs?

Developers are eager to know how much they can charge for their custom GPTs and also whether the GPT Store will evolve into the equivalent of an App Store for AI, as well as set the industry standards.

However, one major advantage of the OpenAI GPT Store over other third-party software platforms is its inclusive nature. Unlike some counterparts, participation doesn’t require a developer account or any prior software experience.

The only prerequisites are a compelling idea and the ability to input it into the ChatGPT Builder. Of course, users must also have a subscription to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus or Enterprise, which starts at $20 per month USD.
