Introducing the new generative AI model Sora from the makers of ChatGPT, OpenAI. The new generative AI model operates in the same way as DALL-E, the image generation tool, with only one difference. Sora produces videos.
All the user has to do is draft out the scene and features, type it, and Sora will deliver a high-definition video. In addition, it can extend original videos, fill the frames, and generate videos just from photos.
Sora is OpenAI’s entry into the world of video generation AI tools, competing with the likes of Lumiere from Meta and Google, and Stable Video Diffusion from Stability AI. In the future, as technology develops, we will see more entries into this field.
Now, the video generative model Sora is only available to a handful of safety testers whose sole duties are to check for all-around vulnerabilities, including areas such as bias and misinformation. Released information states that Sora is limited to creating only one-minute-long videos.
There is little to no more information on Sora beyond the 10 sample clips on the company website, while OpenAI says it would release the accompanying technical paper later on Thursday, the same day it was first announced.
The Sora Underlying Problem
Barely 2years since the wave of generative AI models began; the issues arising from its uses are mind-blowing. According to the data from a machine-learning firm, Clarity, the number of AI-generated deepfakes has been on a 900% year-to-year increase since 2022.
In recent times, there was the Taylor Swift issue where a fan uploaded an AI-generated image of the popstar in a sexual appearance that led to a fallout between the Universal Music Group and TikTok.
Then the cases of fake videos from government officials that promote misinformation in the political space around the world.
These are just a few examples of what looks like a potential misinformation lawsuit against OpenAi waiting to happen.
As much as we can see the underlying problem with this innovation, we can all agree that in terms of marketing and advertising, this is a game changer.
For now, we all have to look in the positive direction of this kind of innovation while preparing for the worst.
