In a significant move to reshape Africa’s role in the global AI landscape, JADA, a Lagos-based data & analytics talent hub, has secured $1 million in funding to transform the continent from a source of basic AI labor into a powerhouse of advanced AI talent.

While Africa boasts a young, tech-savvy population, the global AI economy has largely limited people in Africa to entry-level tasks like data annotation and labeling. JADA aims to change this narrative by creating a new generation of advanced AI professionals capable of serving global markets.
“We are betting big on an AI workforce out of Africa—one that can build for the world, starting here,” says Olumide Soyombo, founding partner at JADA and co-founder of Bluechip Technologies and Voltron Capital.

A Strategic Approach to Talent Development

JADA’s business model offers a compelling proposition to international clients by providing access to untapped talent pools in underserved regions. Companies can benefit from flexible workforce solutions without navigating complex labor law considerations while gaining access to highly trained professionals with a minimum of two years of experience.

The startup boasts an impressive leadership team that brings substantial expertise to the venture. At the helm is founder Massimiliano Spalazzi, former Jumia Nigeria CEO, alongside Piero Trivellato serving as CEO with over 10 years of experience in C-suite data & AI roles and McKinsey consulting. Completing the executive team is Azeez Busari, who takes on the role of VP of Operations.

JADA Selection and Training Process

JADA employs a comprehensive, multi-step approach to talent development. The process begins with AI-backed algorithmic screening of candidate profiles, followed by rigorous technical and non-technical assessments. Promising candidates then participate in case studies and live presentations to demonstrate their practical capabilities.

The final stages include culture-fit interviews and comprehensive background checks to ensure the highest quality of selected professionals.

The training program features an intensive four-month period, with each cohort containing 30 professionals annually. Throughout the training duration, participants receive stipend support to facilitate their full engagement in the program. This structured approach ensures that each professional emerges fully prepared to meet the demanding requirements of global AI projects.

Market Positioning and Competitive Advantage

The timing couldn’t be better for JADA’s entry into the market. Google’s Data & AI Trend Report 2024 indicates that 54% of digital leaders are grappling with skills shortages in AI and related fields.
“We have a cost advantage, we have a language advantage, we have a geographical advantage, and we have a talent advantage,” emphasizes Spalazzi, highlighting JADA’s unique position in the market.

JADA’s Future Expansion Plans

While initially concentrating its operations in Nigeria, JADA has developed a comprehensive expansion strategy. The company’s primary focus will be on serving European and Middle Eastern markets, with geographic expansion carefully aligned with client needs. JADA has also incorporated flexibility in its growth plan to adapt to various language requirements as requested by clients, ensuring seamless service delivery across different regions.

As competition heats up with global software outsourcing companies like BairesDev and Tatvasoft, JADA’s focus on experienced professionals sets it apart. “Most clients complain that inexperienced candidates lack the skills to do the job. But the way to scale is to find people who can deliver projects that generate significant cash flow that you can then invest back into a pipeline,” explains Soyombo.
With its strategic approach, strong leadership team, and substantial funding, JADA is well-positioned to revolutionize Africa’s role in the global AI talent marketplace while addressing critical skill shortages in the industry.
