iOS 19 is nearly here: Here’s what’s coming at WWDC25

iOS 19 isn’t just another iterative update; by most accounts, it’s the start of a fundamental redesign that touches everything from icons to multitasking

Apple’s WWDC25 runs June 9–13, with the keynote (and iOS 19 Beta 1) kicking off on June 9 both online and at Apple Park in Cupertino.

Developers get day‑one access to Beta 1 that evening, public betas follow through July and August, and the official release usually ships alongside the new iPhone 17 in mid‑September

Reliable leakers point out that iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR (all A12‑based phones from 2018) won’t support iOS 19, making the iPhone 11 or newer the minimum requirement.

Expect iPadOS 19 to likewise retire aging A12‑powered iPads—but we’ll know the full list when Apple posts its official compatibility chart at WWDC.

According to Bloomberg, iOS 19 represents the biggest visual reboot since iOS 7, borrowing “glassy” translucencies and rounded icons from visionOS to unify iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The Verge adds that controls like Control Center and in‑app navigation bars will float above content, bringing consistency across all Apple platforms. Early mock‑ups show optional “squircled” icons, more widget customization, and perhaps even a reimagined Dock.

After delays, context‑aware Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence, should debut this fall with iOS 19.

AppleInsider explains that Siri will tap into App Intents, calendars, maps, and on‑device data to answer questions like, “When do I need to leave for Mom’s flight?”.

Don’t expect a full Siri chatbot until 2026, but the core improvements aim to restore Siri’s usefulness and privacy safeguards.

Now, building on last year’s RCS rollout, iOS 19 will add end‑to‑end encryption for RCS messages across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and watchOS.

The Verge notes this uses the GSMA’s Messaging Layer Security standard, finally giving Android‑iPhone chats iMessage‑level safety.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that AirPods will gain a live translation feature in iOS 19—ideal for conversations in foreign languages, with translations piped directly through your earbuds. This would put AirPods on par with Google’s Pixel Buds and third‑party wearables.

CNET also reveals that Apple is prototyping an AI health coach (Project Mulberry) that uses data from your Health app and Apple Watch to offer workout tips, nudges to walk more, and personalized nutrition advice—all while keeping your info on‑device. Think of it as a daily wellness companion in your pocket.

App UX Overhauls on iOS 19

  • Camera & Photos: Expect a floating controls bar with pro toggles, plus refinements to last year’s Photos redesign based on feedback.
  • Split‑Screen iPhone Multitasking: Leaks suggest side‑by‑side apps are being tested for high‑end models.
  • iPadOS 19: Bloomberg says iPadOS will get macOS‑style productivity—better multitasking, window management, and a Finder‑like Files app—bringing the iPad closer to a laptop replacement

With WWDC just weeks away, the official details will land June 9—so mark your calendar, back up your device, and get ready to explore a freshly imagined iOS with deeper intelligence, tighter security, and smoother multitasking.
