The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Education, has announced the MTN Scholarship for the 2024 academic year.

This annual scholarship is a great chance for Nigerian students to get financial help for their education. It supports high-achieving students in public tertiary institutions, helping them reach their academic goals.

About the MTN Scholarship Programme

The MTN Scholarship Programme offers financial awards to students in three main categories:

  1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS): This is for 300-level students studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses. Applicants need to have a CGPA of at least 3.5 to qualify.
  2. Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS): This is for 200 and 300-level blind students studying any course. These students need a minimum CGPA of 2.5 to apply.
  3. Top Ten UTME Scholarship: This is awarded to the top ten scorers in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). These students get support from their first year (100-level) through to graduation, as long as they maintain the required grades.

Eligibility and Award Details

  • MTN STS: For 300-level students in public tertiary institutions studying STEM courses with a CGPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • MTN SBS: For 200 and 300-level blind students in any discipline with a CGPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Top Ten UTME: Automatically awarded to the top ten UTME scorers, supporting them throughout their university education.

Each scholarship category provides successful applicants with N300,000 annually until graduation, provided they continue to meet the academic requirements.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official website at MTN Scholarships.
  2. It would be best if you met the criteria for your specific scholarship category. Ensure you are a 300-level STEM student for MTN STS, a 200 or 300-level blind student for MTN SBS, or among the top ten UTME scorers as announced by JAMB.
  3. Gather all necessary documents, including:
    • A recent passport photo
    • Valid ID card
    • Admission letter
    • Academic transcripts
    • A letter of recommendation from an academic referee
    • A personal biography explaining why you deserve the scholarship
  4. Complete the seven-step application form on the MTN Scholarship portal with accurate and verifiable information. Make sure all details are correct to avoid disqualification.
  5. Carefully review all the information and documents you’ve provided to ensure there are no errors or omissions.
  6. Once you’ve verified that everything is correct, submit your completed application on the portal before the deadline on June 12, 2024. Don’t wait until the last minute to avoid any issues.

Primary Focus

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship is available to 300 eligible Nigerian students in public tertiary institutions in their third year and will be given annually if they maintain the required grades.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students is targeted at 60 second year blind students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions . It will be given annually provided they maintain the required grades.
