After months of speculation, Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
While the original release window was sometime in 2025, the delay seems aimed at making sure the game hits the high standards fans expect—and honestly, given Rockstar’s track record, the wait might be worth it.
Rockstar also shared an official statement to explain the delay and thank the community for their patience.
Hi everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team.
We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception.
We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”
Vice City is Back—And It’s Wilder Than Ever
The latest trailer, released today, May 6, gives us a deeper look into the game’s setting and characters. It’s flashy, chaotic, and packed with Florida energy—from beach parties to swamp chases to an alligator on a pink leash.
Set in the fictional state of Leonida (basically Rockstar’s take on Florida), the game brings us back to the neon-lit world of Vice City, but with a massive upgrade.
We meet the two main characters:
- Jason Duval – A former soldier turned drug runner, trying to escape his past.
- Lucia Caminos – Fresh out of prison and ready to take control of her future, no matter the cost.

Together, they form a Bonnie-and-Clyde style duo navigating crime, corruption, and a fast-paced digital world full of viral moments and social media chaos.
What Else Did Rockstar Reveal?
Along with the release date and new trailer, Rockstar updated its official GTA VI site with character bios, locations, and new screenshots. Some other characters include:
- Boobie Ike – A Vice City legend turned businessman who owns everything from a strip club to a recording studio.
- Cal Hampton – A paranoid conspiracy theorist who might actually know what he’s talking about.
- Brian Heder – A boatyard operator who offers Jason a place to stay… for a price.
There’s also a clear focus on social commentary, internet culture, and modern-day insanity. From influencer fails to swamp airboat chases, this game looks like it’s not just about crime—it’s about the world we live in, cranked to the max.
What’s Still Missing?
So far, there’s no confirmed PC version, yet, and we haven’t seen a full gameplay deep dive. No word on GTA Online’s future either. But if history’s anything to go by, we can probably expect a PC launch sometime after the console release.
Yes, it’s a long wait, but judging by what I’ve seen so far, GTA VI is set to be an absolute hit. Between the storytelling, the setting, and the wild details we’ve seen so far, it feels like Rockstar is going all-in.
