Google Publisher Center will no longer Support new manual Publications

According to Google, the new automated approach will deepen reader engagement and diversify revenue through subscriptions or contributions with Reader Revenue Manager.

As of April 25th, 2024, adding publications manually to Google’s Publisher Center is officially a thing of the past. Don’t panic! This is just the first step in a rollout of automatically generated publication pages coming later this year.

If you already have a manually created publication page in the Publisher Center, you’re in luck! You’ll still have access to all the customization features until the switch to auto-generated pages happens before the end of the year. Rest assured, your followers won’t be affected – they’ll still be able to keep up with your latest content.

According to Google, the core functionality remains the same! As long as your content follows Google’s guidelines, it’ll still be eligible to appear in Google News and other news surfaces.

Google’s algorithms are constantly at work, ranking content based on factors like relevance, freshness, and how authoritative your publication is. If you want to learn more about ranking high in Google News? Check out their guide here.

Users might have noticed a new feature peeking out in Publisher Center: Reader Revenue Manager. From what we know so far, this exciting tool will help creators deepen reader engagement and diversify their income through subscriptions or contributions.

Unfortunately, as of now, Reader Revenue Manager isn’t available everywhere. If you’re based in Nigeria and clicked “Open” to get started, you might have seen a message saying it’s not available in your region yet. Don’t fret! Keep an eye out for updates, as Google might be rolling it out to new regions soon.

This could also explain why once you submit your site for a review on the Publisher Center, it automatically sets to “Not Live” in mere seconds with zero chance to be reviewed.

Although Google’s automated systems may initially set your publication to “Not Live” status. This doesn’t necessarily mean rejection, but could indicate your site doesn’t yet meet Google News content policies or quality standards.

Here are some potential reasons why your site might be marked “Not Live”:

  • Content Policy Violations: Review Google News Content Policies carefully. Your site might contain content deemed unsuitable for Google News, such as hate speech, violence, or malware.
  • Quality Concerns: Focus on high-quality, original content. Google prioritizes well-written, informative articles from authoritative sources.
  • Technical Issues: Ensure your website loads properly and has properly formatted RSS feeds (if applicable).
  • Incomplete Information: Double-check that you’ve provided all necessary information when submitting your site.

So, there you have it! The Google News Publisher Center is streamlining the process for publishers and getting ready for the auto-generated publication pages; and while we await for the auto-publication to be released, keep pushing it by creating high-quality content.
