The sixth edition of the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise is one of the most anticipated video games and is set to release in autumn 2025, according to its publisher, Take-Two Interactive.
Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, announced the release date during its latest earnings call.
Interest in GTA 6 is massive! The trailer, released by Rockstar in December after a leak, has already been viewed over 190 million times on YouTube.
From what the Gaming analyst Piers Harding-Rolls had said, the lengthy development time suggests GTA 6 might be “the most expensive game ever made.”
Rockstar is known for taking its time to perfect games before releasing them, but the wait for GTA 6 has been unusually long.
He also mentioned that the ongoing success of GTA 5 has allowed Rockstar to avoid rushing the new game.
However, the 2025 release window for GTA 6 might disappoint console makers and game retailers who were hoping for an earlier launch to boost their sales, according to Harding-Rolls.
Despite being over a decade old, GTA 5 continues to be a major revenue source for Take-Two. During the investor call on Thursday, Take-Two revealed that GTA 5 has sold 200 million units worldwide and saw a 35% increase in audience size last year. This makes it the second best-selling game of all time, just behind Minecraft.
