Vaishali Kasture, the executive appointed by Amazon as the interim head of AWS India and South Asia, has resigned from her position after just seven months.

Kasture, who had been with Amazon for approximately five years, took on the role of interim leader of commercial business at AWS India and South Asia in June and the reason for quitting her job is still unknown.

Amazon, a major player in the Indian market has not yet responded in regards to Kasture leaving her position. India is a key market for AWS, with the company aggressively pursuing partnerships with numerous businesses and government entities.

In a LinkedIn post, she stated, “Our total planned investments in India will be more than $16.4 billion or 1.36 lakh crores by 2030, and we expect this to contribute $23 billion to India’s GDP by then. In addition to investments in infrastructure and services, we are also investing in people and skilling, and AWS has trained over 4 million people in India through various education and training programs.”

Her appointment to the top position followed the abrupt departure of her predecessor, Puneet Chandok, who left Amazon to assume a leadership role at Microsoft India. As recently as two weeks ago, Kasture expressed enthusiasm and optimism about the growth prospects of Amazon Web Services in India.

In May of this year, Amazon announced plans to invest a substantial $12.7 billion into its cloud business in India by 2030, a financial commitment that surpasses those of its competitors. For context, the entire Indian public cloud services market is projected to reach $13 billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 23.1% for 2021-26.
