Dbrand, one of the top gadget skins makers recently filed a lawsuit against its rival, Casetify, in a Canadian court last week over the unauthorized use of its skin designs. Hence, the company seeks multi-million dollar compensation for damages and copyright infringement.
Dbrand took to X to outline how Casetify purportedly replicated every single element from Dbrand’s “Teardown” accessory lines, created in collaboration with YouTuber Zack Nelson, popularly known as JerryRigEverything for his device durability tests and internal structure explorations.
The company stated that their unique designs were copied by Casetify, including icons, characters, and unique marks that only Dbrand and Zack understand. Likes Zack’s famous quote “Glass is glass, and glass breaks.” Definitely, not something any company would add to their device.
In a YouTube video, titled “I’VE BEEN ROBBED” Zack Nelson showed the similarities and accused Casetify of even reorganizing Dbrand’s MacBook skin components for the launch of its own version within the “Inside Out” product line.
Responding to the allegations, Casetify issued a statement on X, acknowledging the copyright investigation and promptly removing contentious designs from its website. The company also disclosed an ongoing inquiry into a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack that disrupted its website operations when Dbrand made the lawsuit public.
Dbrand’s claims also accused Casetify of copying phone case designs sourced from scans by the repair guide site iFixit. While iFixit posted a sarcastic comment on X directed at Casetify, it remains unclear if the company intends to pursue legal action too.
