Apple has just dropped invites for its upcoming virtual event titled “Scary Fast” set for October 30, just a day before Halloween. While the tagline may hint at something spine-tingling, it’s more likely a reference to the eagerly anticipated new silicon chip, possibly the M3, making its debut right before the holiday gift-buying frenzy.

Irrespective of the enigmatic contents, it’s almost a certainty that we’ll see some fresh Mac offerings at this virtual extravaganza. Macs received scant attention during the recent iPhone event, and it’s high time Apple marked the launch of macOS Sonoma with compatible hardware.

This aligns perfectly with recent reports of dwindling stocks for MacBook Pros and iMacs, both prime candidates for an update. If a MacBook Pro is on the horizon, it’s likely to feature a Pro or Max chip. Introducing the M3 chip in this context would signify a departure from Apple’s established six-month release cycle, which was adhered to with the M2 chip.

The last significant desktop chip unveiling from Apple was the M2 Ultra, which accompanied a Mac Studio refresh at WWDC earlier this year. However, previous whispers suggested that supply chain issues had pushed the release of the 3nm M3 chip to 2024.

More recent rumors, though, paint a different picture. Apple may likely unveil an M3-powered MacBook Pro and a 24-inch iMac, with a larger 34-inch all-in-one iMac Pro expected to make its debut next year.
