Apple has just announced another exciting update for iPhone 14 users, granting them an additional complimentary year of access to the revolutionary satellite-based Emergency SOS features. Apple had originally introduced this safety service with a two-year free period for iPhone 14 customers.

However, this extension is exclusive to iPhone 14 users, as iPhone 15 users are not eligible for this prolonged benefit and must adhere to the initial two-year period, set to conclude by September 2024.

The Emergency SOS via satellite feature empowers compatible iPhone users to establish communication with nearby emergency services even when they find themselves off the grid.

The process involves pointing the phone at the satellite and selecting from a range of preset messages to convey the nature of the emergency, whether medical assistance is required, and more. Apple also offers an orientation app to assist users in determining the satellite’s location, especially if it’s not visible due to distance.

As for the post-gratuity period, Apple has not disclosed the pricing details for this innovative feature, leaving users in anticipation. The extended free duration provides Apple with the necessary time to deliberate and finalize the pricing structure.

In the preceding year, Apple expanded the availability of this feature to all iPhone 14 models in countries such as the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, and the U.K. Recently, it was introduced to Australia and New Zealand, bringing the total number of countries benefiting from this service to 16.

This latest announcement follows Apple’s introduction of Roadside Assistance via satellite, a feature launched two months ago. This new addition builds upon the Emergency SOS via satellite capabilities, connecting users with AAA when they find themselves beyond the reach of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. Apple continues to innovate, ensuring the safety and well-being of its users in various situations.
