Apple is in talks with Anthropic to build a new AI coding platform—and while it’s not public yet, it could change how developers write software inside Apple’s ecosystem.
According to Bloomberg, the two companies are collaborating on what’s being called a “vibe-coding” tool.
It’s essentially a smarter, AI-infused version of Apple’s Xcode that can write, edit, and test code using generative AI.
The brains behind it? Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model—known for its strength in programming tasks.
For now, Apple is keeping this tool internal. There’s no official word on whether it’ll be released publicly, but the fact that they’re building it at all says a lot about Apple’s bigger AI ambitions.
Apple’s been ramping up its AI game lately. ChatGPT already powers parts of the upcoming Apple Intelligence features, and there’s talk that Google’s Gemini might also be added as an option.
Now, with Claude in the mix, Apple’s clearly building a multi-model AI approach—picking the best tools for different tasks.
What’s interesting is that Claude models have already built a strong reputation in developer circles, especially on coding-focused platforms like Cursor and Windsurf.
So if Apple is bringing that same intelligence into Xcode, it could be a big win for productivity—at least for its in-house engineers.
Whether this turns into a public release or stays behind Apple’s walls is anyone’s guess. But it’s clear that the future of coding at Apple is looking a lot more AI-assisted.
