Workers at an Amazon logistics center in northern Spain, located in Trapagaran in the Basque country, are gearing up for a three-day strike preceding the Epiphany feast day on January 6, a significant occasion when Spanish children traditionally receive holiday gifts.

The LAB labor union reports that approximately 160 workers intend to strike on January 3, 4, and 5, advocating for increased wages.

Amazon states that the workers at the Trapagaran Center currently receive competitive wages and benefits. However, the union’s insistence on wage hikes reflects a broader concern among employees.

The Trapagaran center, situated on the border between France and Spain, manages packages for the Basque country and the regions of Burgos and Cantabria. LAB union leader Gotzon Mardarats, who represents the majority of the workers, states that the primary demand is for higher wages in alignment with inflation. Mardarats emphasizes the necessity for pay raises exceeding the forecasted 3% per year until 2025.

This January strike closely follows a recently initiated one that commenced at midnight on Saturday and is scheduled to continue until Monday. The union leader reports that approximately 90% of the center’s workforce participated in the previous strike, resulting in the delay of around 20,000 parcel deliveries.
